University at Albany formerly known as SUNYA, is the main university of the NY State higher education program. It is located at 1400 Washington Ave. Albany, NY 12222, on the southwestern edge of the city near Guilderland. It used to be called Albany Normal School when it was founded in 1844, where teachers were taught to teach. They still have and use the older brick campus buildings between Washington and Western Avenues, closer to downtown Albany.
The University at Albany is home to the Great Danes and is a member of Division 1 sports. It has an impressive athletic reputation as well as academic achievement. The school has built many new buildings in recent years including a science library, sculpture stuido, and expanded School of Business. You can find a diverse blend of majors on campus from humanities to science at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
