Ports of Albany + Rensselaer

Ports of Albany + Rensselaer

The Ports of Albany + Rensselaer are mainly big industrial parks, but they do handle larger ocean going vessels, ships. They are right across the Hudson River from each other in the south ends of both cities. The Hudson River is tidal from harbor in New York City to the Troy dam, over 150 long miles with only a twelve foot drop. Past the locks on the Troy dam, tugs can move barges to Lake Erie + Lake Ontario via the Barge Canal, which is the successor to the famous Erie Canal. Barges can also access Lake Champlain then the Saint Lawrence River in Canada via the Champlain Canal.

The Port  of Rensselaer is where I took this picture, so it is behind me.
